Placements on the sources the engines already cite

Bluemoon knows which domains and pages the answer engines rely on for your questions, and who sells the inventory on them. The Paid pilot uses that list to buy or pitch placements there, in one market and one category, and measures the same questions before, during and after. Limited seats, arranged by conversation.

How sources are found

The outcome we work towards

More of the answers to your questions citing a source where your brand is present and described accurately. Not a ranking and not a conversion figure: a count of answers, on a fixed set of questions, that can be checked against the stored answers.

  • Sources chosen from evidence

The pilot starts from the domains and pages the engines cited for your questions during the baseline, ranked by how often. Nothing is added to the list because it seems relevant.

  • Bought where inventory is sold

Where a cited site sells advertising, Bluemoon names who sells it. Placements are bought through that sales house or directly, and the record we relied on is kept with the placement.

  • Pitched where it is not

Where there is no inventory to buy, a review, comparison or listing is pitched to the editor, with the count of how often the engines cite that page attached.

The scope of a pilot

Small enough to measure. A pilot is bounded on purpose, so that a change in the answers can be read against a stable set of questions.

  • One market

One country and language pair, with answers collected from inside it. A second market is a second pilot.

  • One category

One product category or topic, so the cited sources form one list rather than several.

  • A fixed set of questions

Agreed with you before the baseline and not changed during the pilot. New questions can still be tracked in your workspace, but they are reported separately.

  • Eight to twelve weeks, typically

A typical scope rather than a commitment; the plan for your pilot sets the dates.

Readiness

Paid is a pilot programme with limited seats. It is arranged by conversation rather than self-serve, because each pilot depends on what the engines cite for your particular questions.

  • Limited seats

A small number of pilots run at a time, so each one gets the attention it needs. When the seats are taken, you are told, and offered a place in the next round.

  • Arranged by conversation

Write to us with the market, the category and, if you have them, the questions. We look at the cited sources for that scope first and tell you whether a pilot makes sense before anything is agreed.

  • What we need before starting

A Bluemoon workspace tracking the questions in that market, so a baseline can be measured from stored answers, and a named owner on your side for media and for PR.

How evaluation works

The same questions, the same engines, the same market, measured before, during and after. Results are reported as counts.

  1. Baseline measured before

For the fixed question set, on the engines and market in scope: how many answers cite each source, how many name you, how many recommend you. Counted from stored answers over an agreed period before any placement goes live.

  2. Placements go live

Each placement is logged with the source, the date it went live and how it was obtained: bought, and through which sales house, or pitched.

  3. The same questions measured during

Daily collection continues unchanged. Movement is reported as counts against the baseline: answers citing the source, answers naming you, answers recommending you, per engine.

  4. Reported after, with counts

A report with the baseline, the counts during and after, their denominators and the placement timeline. Where a change coincides with a placement, the report says so. It does not claim the placement caused it, because the engines do not tell us that and we do not guess.

Terms used on this page

Cited source
A domain or page that appeared as a source in a stored answer to one of your questions, ranked by how many answers cited it.
Sales house
The company that sells advertising on a site on the publisher's behalf.
Placement
A bought or pitched appearance of your brand on a cited source: an ad, a review, a comparison or a listing.
Baseline
The counts for the fixed question set, measured before any placement goes live.
Observed, not attributed
Observed is what was counted in stored answers. Attributed would be claiming that a placement caused a change. The pilot reports the first and does not claim the second.
